Cute, almost campy, 1950's themed diner complete with vintage milkshake machines, Formica countertops, and an old juke box. And EVERYTHING, and I mean everything, is Barbie pink. Even the parking lot lines are bubblegum pink. Pal's serves classic, Americana comfort food, like burgers, soups, salads, meatloaf and breakfast all-day. I ordered the Cod Nuggets and fries from the $5.00 lunch menu. The cod nuggets were flaky and the fries were crispy and hot. My friend ordered the steak, eggs and home-style fry meal but substituted the steak for a country fried steak with gravy. They were accommodating with the request to change things around. She said hers was excellent and worth the small upcharge for the gravy. We went in around 11am and the place was dead so I can't speak to if they have a rush at any point but it's something to consider if you are planning a trip as the diner isn't that large. I'm not sure if/when I'll be back as I'm not on this side of town often, but my friend, who lives closer, said she would be back soon, espcially to try out their breakfasts.

Service - 5 Food - 5 Country fried steak is excellent. Gravy was great. Broccoli was good. Only thing I didn't like was the mashed potatoes. Kids meals - plentiful and good. Meatloaf - very very good. My wife really enjoyed this plate. We will definitely be back here! But will leave room for desert!

What a blast from the past. Stopped there on the way from the airport to Holland and had a tasty lunch. Simple, comfort food done well. Staff was attentive and friendly.

The building is defiantly one that will get your attention. In fact on our first night in town we drove by this place and had to turn around just to see what it was. We went back a couple of nights later to have dinner. We had a chocolate milkshake that was great. Hubby had the humdinger, a double cheese burger served with fries which he said was very good. I had the Philly cheese steak complete with au' jus sauce which was awesome. Guy Fieri needs to get his butt here...I mean if Elvis, Chewbacca, and the Jonas Brothers have eaten here, why hasn't Guy paid them a visit yet.

Yummy diner food in tiny quarters-- this is the type of place you bring your family for food that tastes like it was made by a (really good) home cook. They have sandwiches (hot and cold), burgers, salads and dinners with sides. Food is greasy, heavy sunday-dinner food. A good family place but a little...g-rated to go have grown up talk with a girlfriend because the whole diner can hear you. They have bar seating and tables and yummy hand-made milkshakes!

we drove a long way to try this diner after just seeing it on the PBS show "under the radar Michigan". It was closed on a Friday afternoon at 3:00! So I don't know if it's closed for good or just for the day. There were no cars there and no sign on the door but it was locked and no lights on. So what's up with that?

Stopped here for breakfast while in GR on business. All the comments about the place being pink are true, but it's not as big a deal as everybody makes it out to be. So I get there around 7:40 and found out they don't open until 8am. My fault for not checking, but seriously, a breakfast place not open until 8am?? No biggie, it left me time to run to Starbucks next door and grab a coffee. The place was empty, which was odd for a diner in the morning. On the plus side, the waitress didn't say a word about me bringing my Starbucks in with me. Also on the plus side, they didn't even blink at me requesting a custom omelette not on the menu. It was tasty, but not "awesome" diner food. Filled me up for a decent price and fairly quickly so I could get on the road. I'd go again, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

"For your authentic American diner experience try Pals" should be the advertisement somewhere, since that's what Pals is. Before we even put our foot in the door this place stands out. As Pal's comes into view we see the lines for parking the coloured not white, but electric pink, to match the pink highlights on the exterior and the interior. Inside of Pals is the diner you imagine in your mind, small with booth and high chairs by the counter. There's electric pink touches everywhere. On the counter there's cake in round glass cake holders, even an old fashioned square tv made before remote controls. There's a classic looking milk shake maker. The place is extremely well kept, bright and clean. The staff are very efficient and friendly and handle me being overwhelmed by the speed I'm asked for something to drink as I fluster my way to find the drinks on the menu. One cherry coke later, I order a cheese burger with home fries. The burger is quite substantial and it comes with cheese on a brown bread bun and nothing more. It's very good but a little dry. I suppose if I wanted lettuce and tomato I should have asked. This is a place where you get what you ask for. The home fries are excellent. I can't remember what my wonderful wife who's has brought me to this place had but I do remember it was heartily devoured and her fries were excellent. I really want to try a milkshake or malt but the need for ice cream just isn't appealing today, and I'm too full after the burger to try a piece of pie or cake sitting temptingly on the counter. I do manage to fit in a coffee however. The mugs are big and thick and the coffee is good. I'll be back this time hungry enough for a milkshake and piece of pie with my burger. A Grand Rapids must.

I would do Zero stars if I could. The service was ok but I orders the liver and onions and it was horrible. Tasteless and overlooked. I never did get the bread and I watched a server sniff the cottage cheese before bringing it out. When I told the server the liver was bad and asked to switch to a diff meal he said he had to ask. At this point I hear the manager saying there is nothing wrong with the liver. The manager ( who is also the owners wife) proceeds to come to my table and argue with me about the liver being bad. The first thing she said was that it wasn't spoiled and they got it frozen and then kept repeating that people love it. Finally she said she wouldn't take it off even though I only took one bite. She also would not allow me to get a diff meal. My guest asked for ranch and the servers were standing at the bar on their phones. The food took over 20 min and we were the only guests there. When the manager went in the back she continued to go on about how they sold 30 livers the night before. Doubtful since that would have had to be the only thing they sold. Save your money, if you get something you don't like, you will be stuck with it.

A real gem. 50s style diner with the food and service to match. The bebop Burger with fries was excellent, the bun tasted fresh and was very moist. The waitresses spent half an hour giving me recommendations for things to do in GR. I was expecting a ridiculously greasy meal but that wasn't the case at all. The banana shake was dreamy. Go.. now!

What's not to love? A diner scooped up from the east coast and transported to the middle of a Grand Rapids shopping center parking lot? It is CLASSIC. And very, very pink. Seriously, the parking lot stripes are even pink! The interior is just what you expect a diner like this should look like. Booth and counter style seating in a tiny rectangular metal box. We went around 2pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, however, the owner said that the breakfast crowd packs it in and there's usually a wait. Full on nostalgic coolness at a reasonable price. Awesome banana milk shake (delivered along with the metal tumbler, just as it should be), and a pretty darn good cheeseburger! Stay away from the double unless you haven't eaten for a week. And make sure that you ask for your french fries in a car; they'll be delivered in a box shaped like an American classic.

The place is literally a pink mobile home. The food is extra greasy & the desserts are awesome - homemade pies, warmed with ice cream are worth the trip alone. And don't forget about the classic malts or chocolate sodas. The beauty of the place is that you'll fit in whether you're coming home from a day mowing lawns or going for a quick bite with your old man. Good greasy food for an average price (~$12 OTD).

15 minutes in this place will have you looking around for a leather jacket and a Cadillac. An authentic 50's diner that was brought here from New Jersey, Pal's hasn't lost any of its charm over the past half-decade. Good burgers and great open-faced sandwiches go perfectly with an old-fashioned chocolate soda, all for a price that, while maybe not authentic 50's, is very reasonable for the 21st century. You'll find yourself wanting to sit at the bar so you can be part of the action.
